Opal Sock Yarn

Buying a Spindle

My jaunt up to Stick & Stone was very successful. First I drove from our house to Van Nuys in only an hour and 15 minutes. While this does not break the land speed record by any means, it is quite respectable given the usual traffic through downtown Los Angeles. I did have a little trouble finding the shop but after a call or to I was guided into the little shopping center where Stick & Stone Fiberarts lives.

Yarnyball & teeth

(no subject)

Tomorrow I'm trekking up to Van Nuys to Stick & Stone Fiberarts to buy a spindle. I kept thinking there must be somewhere here in Orange County that would have them but the source is well hidden if there is.

Randall, one of the owners, said he would be there and help me pick out an appropriate starter spindle. I'm really kind of hoping that one of the cool acrylic spindles by Dave Larson will be appropriate because they are both beautiful and reasonable. You can see some samples here in the Spindlicity Archives.

I have a dyed roving that I my friend Wally gave to me while we were on tour in Portland, OR. She bought it at the Saturday Market. I have no idea what kind of wool it is but I'm assuming that Randall figure it out for me. I'm not sure if there is enough to make a pair of sock (assuming I can even get it spun properly) but I'll mix it with another yarn if need be.

I'm really nervous about this project. I keep envisioning yards and yards of ugly, un-useable yarn. I just need to stick to my own mantra "It is what it is." Or come up with some really good, new swear words.
